California Community Colleges Student System Adopted by Four New Districts
CCCApply.org Continues to Expand in Popularity and Usage; Another 14 Colleges Can Now Be Accessed on the Site
CULVER CITY, Calif., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Another four community college districts have subscribed to the CCCApply Project (www.cccapply.org), a state-wide web-based admission application system that automates and simplifies the enrollment process for the California Community Colleges (CCC), it was announced today by the California Community Colleges, Chancellor's Office (CCCCO) and Xap Corporation -- the leading provider of Internet-based educational services.
The new districts are the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), the Coast Community College District (CCCD), and Mt. San Antonio and Shasta community college districts -- for a total of 14 colleges.
The LACCD's participation adds nine schools for access on the site (Los Angeles City, Harbor, Mission, Pierce, Southwest, Trade-Technical, and Valley community colleges; East Los Angeles and West Los Angeles community colleges). The CCCD's participation brings on board the three largest community colleges in Orange County, California (Golden West, Orange Coast College, and Coastline Community College), and Mt. San Antonio and Shasta community colleges complete the group of 14 new schools. The added institutions expand the CCCApply system to 65 of the California Community Colleges' 109 member schools -- representing all regions of the state and single-and-multi college districts with small and large enrollments.
"CCCApply has been one of the most successful centralized applications of technology for the CCC system. It has saved a tremendous amount of money and resources by eliminating the need to develop and maintain a student application portal at each participant's campus," said Patrick Perry, Vice Chancellor, Technology, Research and Information Systems Division for the California Community Colleges, Chancellor's Office. "Furthermore, students can go to a single point of application and get current, uniform information about all the campuses in the CCC system. CCCApply has had a very strong adoption curve, and the ultimate goal will be to have all colleges and districts participate, a goal that is now foreseeable in the not-too-distant future."
The site is free to users, and it provides a broad range of services to simplify the enrollment process. For example, users can complete the online admissions application one time, apply to multiple community colleges, and check on the status of their applications. Also users can utilize the site's online tools to compare and research any of the 65 participating colleges, obtain key facts, take a multimedia tour of a campus, send e-mail communication to any school, research financial aid eligibility requirements, and more.
"California Community Colleges play a critical role in making higher education available to everyone, with no one left out," said Liz Dietz, CEO of Xap Corporation. "The development and release of the CCCApply system marked an important milestone for higher education in California and filled an unmet need for the community of students, parents, and educators; and Xap is pleased that its technology was able to make it possible."
The CCCApply system was developed in collaboration between Xap Corporation, community college and district representatives, and the Chancellor's office. It was launched in fall 2001 with 10 pilot colleges. In 2003, the CCCCO and the Foundation for California Community Colleges awarded the CCCApply project team with a Technology Focus Award for contributions made to the CCCApply project. The award commends strategic integrated uses of technology to empower faculty through sources within reach of all campus constituents. In 2004, CCCApply received an average of 5,000 visitors daily, and more than 390,000 applications were submitted online.
