AMRON's M5(TM) Advanced Metering Platform Interoperates With GE's kV2c Meter

AMRON's M5(TM) Advanced Metering Platform Interoperates With GE's kV2c Meter

HARTSVILLE, S.C., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- AMRON Technologies, Inc. announced today that it has successfully adapted its open architecture M5(TM) platform hardware reference design to interoperate with the GE kV2c meter. The M5 platform is the only closed-loop advanced metering system that is both meter and wireless network-agnostic, comprising underglass hardware, flexible communications, web-based meter management software and a secure data center.

Responding to several customer requests, AMRON sought to adapt its completely underglass hardware reference design to operate within the very limited landscape and low-power parameters of the GE kV2c meter. As with other meters, AMRON's communications interface board (CIB) inserts directly into the GE meter's primary bus, eliminating the need for optional serial boards and external power supplies. The CIB communicates with the GE's ANSI tables using the standard PSEM protocol, and collects and repackages data into standard UDP/TCP format for transmission over any wireless network. This provides a very efficient, low overhead data stream between the meter and AMRON's Advanced Metering Portal (AMP), which hosts the company's advanced web-based meter management software.

Mark Leach, chief technology officer for AMRON, said, "Our engineering team moved at Mach speed to adapt our core hardware design to the GE meter. Not only did we tackle under glass footprint issues, but we cracked important power supply issues. The large investor-owned utilities for which we fast- tracked this development project are extremely pleased with the results they've seen so far."

Over any public or private network, the M5 platform transfers data from a remote meter to the AMP in as few as five seconds, converting data in real "real-time" to actionable information for smarter-than-smart meter management decisions. Taken as a whole solution, the M5 platform is a powerful combination of hardware, software, and wireless communication technologies for a complete, closed-loop, customized, advanced metering platform.
