Sipex Introduces a Highly Efficient Synchronous PWM Controller Optimized for DSL Modems and Set Top Boxes

MILPITAS, Calif., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sipex Corporation (NASDAQ:SIPX), a leading supplier of high performance, analog integrated circuits (ICs), further expands its family of synchronous PWM controllers with the addition of the SP6139. This PWM controller has a wide input voltage range and a high operating frequency of 1.3MHz making it ideal for applications such as DSL or cable modems, gateways and set top boxes.

The wide input voltage of the SP6139 makes it suitable for converting wall adapter, battery or network DC input into the required voltages to power DSPs, ASICs and FPGAs. The SP6139 has a precision 1% reference and can provide output voltages as low as 0.8V at currents of up to 15A. With current requirements for state of the art set top box and broadband equipment increasing, efficiency requirements are also increasing. The SP6139 employs synchronous mode operation and integrated, high current drivers to enable peak efficiencies of up to 94%.

The high switching frequency of 1.3MHz enables fast transient response and the use of smaller input and output filters reducing the size and cost of the system. Protection features such as thermal shutdown, output short circuit protection and under-voltage lockout for both Vcc and input supplies are included in the SP6139.
