New Chip From Tehuti Networks Accelerates Network Traffic Throughput; Network Traffic Accelerator Cost-Effectively Extends the Life of IT Equipment

AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Tehuti(TM) Networks, a fabless semiconductor company, has developed and is now offering TCP/IP acceleration technology designed for servers and motherboards that network through 1- and 10-gigabit Ethernet. The first in Tehuti Networks' line of Network Traffic Accelerator(TM) (NTA) chips, named Bordeaux, seamlessly integrates into any server environment or network appliance, significantly boosting network performance with very minimal impact on cost or footprint. The new chip is now available in limited quantities.

In recent years, the communication speed in Ethernet LAN systems has increased faster than computer processor speeds. And, as more and more internet data flows through companies' networks, the performance of servers and network appliances declines because their central processing units (CPUs) cannot keep up with the increased network traffic. As a result, TCP/IP protocol processing is quickly becoming the bottleneck in one and 10-gigabit networks.

Network Traffic Accelerators

Tehuti Networks' Network Traffic Accelerators increase internet data throughput in IT equipment. They are high-speed accelerator/offload devices that move TCP/IP processing from software onto hardware. Tehuti Networks' NTAs operate completely transparent of a server's operating system, enabling quick and easy integration into both new and existing platforms. The NTAs are comparable in cost to simple NICs, but with much higher performance. Key features include:

-- Small footprint -- 10X smaller than most TCP/IP Offload Engines
(TOEs)
-- Low power consumption -- as low as 3 watts
-- Scalability -- from single port to multi-port
-- Easy migration from 1-gigabit to 10-gigabit Ethernet networks

The Bordeaux chip also includes:
-- Complete TCP/IP standard -- processes IP tasks, such as IP
fragmentation, TCP out of order and TCP connection establishment.
Executing these tasks on hardware instead of software considerably
reduces CPU overhead, and greatly improves server performance.
-- Multiprocessor platform load balancing -- can interface with up to
four CPUs using different interrupts and queues -- load balancing is
also performed on the hardware.
-- Up to 65,535 concurrent active connections -- greatly accelerates TCP
processing, enabling the software to handle significantly more
connections. Increased connectivity enables data centers to provide
more services to more customers.
-- Interfaces to standard peripherals -- PCI-X, DDR SDRAMs (64/32/16 MB)
and GMII.
