Monster Design Creates Web Site for United Nations 'International Year of Microcredit 2005'
REDMOND, Wash., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Monster Design, a graphic design firm headquartered in Redmond, Wash., recently completed designing the United Nations web site for the Year of Microcredit 2005, which was officially launched November 15, 2004. The site can be found at www.yearofmicrocredit.org.
The Year's overarching goal is to provide greater access to credit, savings, insurance, transfer remittances and other financial services disadvantaged households in order to move towards more secure livelihoods and prosperous futures.
"Monster Design was chosen for this project because of their fresh approach to web design and our confidence that they could communicate our mission to the important audiences we are trying to reach as we launch the International Year of Microcredit," said Christina Barrineau, spokesperson for the United Nations International Year of Microcredit initiative. "We are trying to get people to see that the four billion people in the world may be poor in income but rich in what they have to offer the world. Financial tools can enhance human capital and help them be dynamic economic agents. This web site is the starting point for this exciting endeavor, and helps to attract and inform more and more people and organizations who want to invest in these kinds of wonderful possibilities."
Another primary aim of the Year is to increase public awareness about the reliability of microfinance clients, especially women, in repaying loans, managing household incomes, building assets and enterprises and contributing to the economy.
Said Theresa Monica, co-founder with Hannah Wygal of Monster Design, "Our experience designing for non-profits, especially our work for Redmond-based Unitus, a global microfinance accelerator and one of the world's leading microfinance organizations, brought us to the attention of the United Nations. This project was gratifying to work on because microcredit really exemplifies how such a small amount of money can completely change a person's life."
Monster Design's work in this area recently garnered the Grand Award and Award of Excellence by APEX for the Unitus email newsletter and website. This site can be found at www.unitus.com.
