Graphisoft Chooses Solid for Virtual Building Applications

Graphisoft Chooses Solid for Virtual Building Applications

Solid Database Management Technology Enables Innovative Construction Management Solution

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and HELSINKI, Finland, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Solid Information Technology, the leading supplier of embedded data management software for the network infrastructure, in markets such as Telecommunications, Digital Media and Telematics, today announced that Solid EmbeddedEngine(TM) was chosen by Graphisoft(R) as the data manager for Graphisoft's new line of Virtual Construction(TM) products.

Solid EmbeddedEngine is a small footprint relational database management system (RDBMS) that offers enterprise-class, reliable, recoverable data management for applications running on non-traditional computing platforms. Solid EmbeddedEngine has around three million copies running today in mission- critical network infrastructure applications and digital content distribution systems.

The Graphisoft Virtual Construction solution is the world's first commercially available 5D Construction Management System, for use by General Contractors responsible for multi-million dollar projects. It delivers huge efficiency savings to large-scale projects through the transparency of a 5D construction management model. Graphisoft's product line-up includes 3D construction modeling, model-based estimating and 4D sequencing that automatically links the construction model to the project schedule and allows schedule alternatives to be more effectively analyzed, creating a more effective and adaptable tool for the architect and project teams. Finally, the solution provides 5D reporting, which uses the construction model as the link between cost and time, producing cost-loaded schedules for financial analysis. This is the first time the industry has had the ability to manage construction projects in 5D and open standards.

In addition to the Solid EmbeddedEngine database manager, Graphisoft has also added Solid SmartFlow(TM) technology, which enables automatic data synchronization and distribution by extracting, linking and publishing construction model information between the various modules of the Graphisoft solution. An application need only write to its local database and from then on Solid ensures that the distribution of data takes care of itself. The SmartFlow option is commonly used in applications that require transferring data between office-based central databases and mobile users. Multiple off- line changes can be centralized and synchronized on a server, and thereafter the data can be connected to other construction management business systems.

"Our customers are delighted with the functionality and robustness that Solid's EmbeddedEngine and SmartFlow technology provides," said Dominic Gallello, CEO of Graphisoft. "Solid's low memory footprint, high performance and ease of maintenance greatly enhance the capabilities of our application. Additionally, the on-line, off-line synchronization capabilities of Solid's data distribution technology provide significant benefits in terms of productivity and coordination between the job site and headquarters."

"Graphisoft is one of the expanding number of major companies outside of our traditional network infrastructure market that are recognizing the benefits of developing applications using Solid's end-to-end solutions for distributed architectures," said Jussi Harvela, Solid President and CEO. "Solid's solutions for embeddable, synchronized, resilient databases with autonomic data management have become the default platform for today's network infrastructure devices and applications. Solid provides world-class software and services that enable companies such as Graphisoft to get their products to market faster and at lower cost. Even complex, distributed applications, such as Graphisoft's Virtual Construction, require little ongoing management when 'Built Solid.'"
