GigaBeam Signs With MST, Trump Properties Communications Service Provider

HERNDON, Va., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GigaBeam Corporation (BULLETIN BOARD: GGBM) , announces the receipt of a purchase order from Microwave Satellite Technologies Inc. (MST), for installation of twenty ultra high speed wireless links to provide advanced communications services, including NuVisions broadband(TM), to tenants in Trump properties in New York. MST is a global communications technology company that provides wired and wireless data, video, and voice services to multi-national corporations, commercial properties, and multi-family residences throughout the United States.

GigaBeam will begin installation of the links in the current quarter, providing high speed connectivity of one Gigabit-per-second from a fiber node at the Trump International Hotel to various Trump properties on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. After successful installation of the first link, MST plans to deploy the additional GigaBeam links throughout 2005 as it expands its customer base by offering its "triple play" (which includes VoIP, video and data), wireless Wi-Fi "hotspots" and other in-building applications. MST currently provides significant wireless Wi-Fi zone coverage in Manhattan, including Central Park South. One Gigabit- per-second is the equivalent of 647 T1 lines or 1,000 DSL connections.

GigaBeam provides ultra high speed wireless point-to-point communications links that operate in the 71-76 GHz and 81-86 GHz radio spectrum bands. This portion of the radio frequency spectrum was recently authorized by the Federal Communications Commission for wireless point-to-point commercial use. Use of these frequency bands was pioneered by GigaBeam's founders.

GigaBeam's technology, coupled with these large blocks of recently authorized contiguous spectrum, enable multi Gigabit-per-second wireless communications utilizing Gigabit Ethernet protocols. The current speed achieved by GigaBeam's technology is 1.25 Gigabits-per-second. GigaBeam will be deploying products next year capable of 10 Gigabits-per-second which is the 10 Gigabit Ethernet protocol standard.

GigaBeam's technology is similar to terrestrial fiber in terms of speed and reliability for deployment in Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs). However, it is has a substantial advantage over terrestrial fiber because it costs less to deploy resulting in a lower cost of ownership and, the company's virtual fiber links can be deployed in a day. Terrestrial fiber can take many months, even a year, to deploy and also require significant regulatory and environmental approvals prior to deployment.
