Tri-C Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday With Noted Speaker Dr. Julianne Malveaux
CLEVELAND, Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Cuyahoga Community College will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday during the College's 28th Annual Observance: "The Dream: Past, Present and Future" on Sunday, January 16, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at the Metropolitan Campus Auditorium with a free program featuring renowned speaker Dr. Julianne Malveaux and entertainment by the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hue People.
Malveaux is a nationally known economist, author and commentator who has dedicated herself to helping African-Americans overcome the constraints and limitations that still exist, long after the Civil Rights movement. Recognized for her provocative and insightful observations, her work appears regularly in USA Today, Black Issues in Higher Education, Ms. Magazine, Essence and The Progressive. Her writings focus on the economy, affirmative action, social status and women's rights and her weekly columns appear in newspapers across the country.
The Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra, a full symphony orchestra conducted by William B. Slocum and the Hue People will provide entertainment for this celebration. Over the years, the Orchestra has expanded its focus to provide musicians of all ages and professions a means of learning and performing symphonic music.
Hue People is the repertoire of two women and two men whose vocal stylings range from a cappella to fully accompanied jazz, R&B, spiritual, folk, African cultural, reggae and a bit of hip hop.
Wayne Dawson, co-anchor of FOX 8 news in the morning will be Master of Ceremonies for the activities. During the program, three Cleveland Public School graduates will receive recognition and scholarships.

Opened in 1963, Cuyahoga Community College is Ohio's first community college and now the state's largest, serving 55,000 students each year. More than 700,000 county residents have come through Tri-C's doors. The college offers two-year associate's degrees, certificate programs, and the first two years of a baccalaureate degree. The curriculum includes nearly 900 credit courses in 70 career and technical programs and liberal arts. Courses are offered at three Cuyahoga County campus locations, many off-campus sites, and via television and the Internet.
