Crown Theatres' Brand New Harbour 9 & Art House Re-Opens With a Week of Holiday and Naval Classics to Raise Funds for Local Annapolis Charities

Crown Theatres' Brand New Harbour 9 & Art House Re-Opens With a Week of Holiday and Naval Classics to Raise Funds for Local Annapolis Charities

NORWALK, Conn., Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The wait is over for Annapolis movie-goers! Annapolis Harbour Center's landmark red & white striped lighthouse now welcomes Crown Theatres' movie-patrons to the new state-of-the- art Crown Harbour 9 & Art House, located at 2474 Solomons Island Road. The complex features the latest technologies, expanded concession stand and patron-friendly amenities.

The Crown Harbour 9 & Art House is helping local charities raise money, and garner needed toys and food. Selected films such as Elf, Holiday Classics including White Christmas and It's A Wonderful Life along with Naval Classic U-571 and Top Gun will be showing all week for only $2.00. All money raised will be going to Families of Servicemen at the Naval Academy, The Sharing Foundation and the Lighthouse Shelter. Additionally, people who bring a canned good or new unwrapped toy will get a FREE small popcorn to enjoy in the movie!

Events run from Saturday December 11th through Thursday December 16th.

To further whet Annapolis movie-goers' appetite, Crown Theatres has completely updated the theatre with a design that incorporates lifestyle comforts with the classic motion picture theatre concept and an emphasis on customer service ... making for the ultimate entertainment experience.

Amenities include spacious rocking chair seating (with cup holder armrests) and extended legroom, a guest service center, all new expanded concession stand and menu, dramatic decor including plush carpeting and contemporary lighting, advance ticketing, and on-site purchase ATM. Each new auditorium will be equipped with digital surround sound which allows for the best in film presentation.

The tradition of serving all Annapolis movie-goers will continue with ART @ the Harbour featuring the latest and best in independent, foreign and documentary films. Art @ the Harbour signifies Crown's dedication to diversified film product.

In an expanded effort to offer quality film going to all, besides wheelchair accessibility, the Harbour 9 & Art House now has the latest in Rear Window(R) Closed Captioning (cc) film presentation for the hearing impaired.

Developed by the Media Access Group at WGBH (Boston), the Rear Window(R)
Captioning System makes it possible for movies to be closed-captioned for
those who are deaf or hard of hearing. This technology does not require a
special print or separate screenings, as captioned information is
supplied on a separate CD linked with the movie's soundtrack. Captions
are displayed in reverse on an LED display mounted in the rear of the
theatre. Patrons use portable, transparent acrylic panels attached to
their seats to reflect the captions -- from anywhere in the auditorium --
so they appear superimposed on or beneath the movie screen. The Rear
Window(R) Captioning System was co-invented by WGBH and Rufus Butler
Seder.

Hal Cleveland, President and COO of Crown Theatres emphasized the positive enhancements being made to the Annapolis Harbour 9 & Art House. "Crown Theatres is committed to bringing the best possible film experience to all of our patrons."

Since 1997, Crown Theatres has been an integral part of the cinema experience for residents of Annapolis and surrounding communities. In July 2000, the Harbour's sister theatre, the new and larger eleven screen Crown Annapolis Mall opened to rave reviews.

Additional programs offered by Crown Theatres include Movies For Moms, which provides a dedicated auditorium showing current blockbusters for parents with children under the age of 2 every Wednesday at 11 AM at the Crown Annapolis Mall 11, as well as the ever-popular Children's Summer Film Festival, every Wednesday and Thursday throughout the Summer.
