The 8th Annual New York Piano Festival and Competition Announces Winners

Gala Concert and Awards Ceremony at the Carnegie Hall

NEW YORK, July 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The 8(th) Annual New York Piano Festival has announced the winners of this year's inaugural Piano Competition. 12 winners were selected from 30 participants in two categories - ages 12 to 17 and 18 to 25. The Gala Concert and Awards Ceremony will take place at the legendary Carnegie Hall on Friday, July 1 at 7:30pm.

"For us this has been the most amazing year to date," said Alexander Beridze, Founder of the Festival. "After seven years of running a festival we launched a Piano Competition, thanks to a grant from the JM Kaplan Fund, and right away received over 100 entries from all 14 different countries. Our longstanding funder, Diana Bagrationi Foundation, was joined by new corporate supporters like Steinway and Sons and the 9.8 Group. Through their generosity this year we distributed over $20,000 in awards and scholarships, and are on track to make the next year even more exciting."

The first prize winners this year are 17-year-old American Clayton Stephenson (Category 1), and Polina Ushakova, age 25, from Switzerland (Category 2).

The Gala concert at the Carnegie Hall will include performances by all 12 winners of the Competition, and will feature compositions by composers John Corigliano and Lowell Liebermann, among others.

Gala tickets could be purchased at the Carnegie Hall box office or online
