MundoMax Premieres Azúcar An Epic Tale Of Forbidden Love And A Deadly Curse Airing Monday Thru Friday At 8PM/7C

Premiere outperforms Univision in Miami

LOS ANGELES, May 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- MundoMax's highly-anticipated new telenovela, Azúcar (Sugar) premiered on Tuesday, May 3(rd) at 8PM/7C as one of the highest-ranking premieres in MundoMax's history. Starring Juan Pablo Gamboa, Indhira Serrano, Carolina López, Jair Romero and Camila Porras, Azúcar ranked as the #2 Spanish-language program among adults 18-49 in Miami at 8pm, outperforming Univision's "Yago" during the same time period.

Originally produced by RCN Television Group, Azúcar combines lavish period sets, exhilarating shots of the Colombian landscape and stellar performances by some of the hottest actors in Spanish-language television into an epic tale of forbidden love, passion, betrayal and a deadly curse.

Initially set in the 1940's, Azúcar follows the story of the Solaz family, owners of one of the most successful and powerful sugarcane plantations in Colombia. Their endless fields of sugarcane stretch out for miles, but their lives change forever when patriarch Manuel Maria Solaz begins a forbidden love affair with his housekeeper, Sixta. The affair is short-lived, but results in Sixta giving birth to Manuel's son, Maximiliano. As Manuel's first-born son, Maximiliano is heir to the sugarcane plantation and the entire Solaz fortune. When Manuel's wife, Matilde, learns of the affair and the newborn baby, Matilde takes Maximiliano from Sixta and banishes Sixta from the plantation. Devastated over the loss of Maximiliano and her home, Sixta places a curse on Matilde that alters the Solaz family's destiny: "Every woman that carries a Solaz child in their womb will die upon birth, until love once again reunites what has been separated." From that moment onward, three generations of the Solaz family suffer the effects of Sixta's revenge, with each generation desperately hoping that their love will finally break the curse.

"MundoMax is proud to welcome Azúcar to our primetime line-up. The show marks the return of RCN's high-quality, original productions to our 8PM time period," said Jose Molina, President, MundoMax. "Its successful premiere is another example of the innovative and compelling programming that the network delivers and that U.S. Hispanic audiences have come to expect from MundoMax."
