Media Advisory - The Governor General and Commander-in-Chief's Military Tattoo

OTTAWA, May 12, 2016 /CNW/ - The public is invited to an afternoon of music, marching, pageantry and precision at the Governor General and Commander-in-Chief's Military Tattoo on Saturday, May 14, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Rideau Hall.

This exciting spectacle will feature Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) massed military bands, pipes and drums, highland dancers, a 100-person guard of honour and a 21-gun salute. The tattoo will also showcase historical re-enactments and Aboriginal cultural elements. The event is free of charge and will take place rain or shine.

Below is the sequence of events (approximate timings) and highlights:

2 p.m. - Opening Sequence


-- March on of the Guard
-- "Royal Salute," which includes a 21-gun salute
-- The Governor General inspects the 100-person guard of honour
-- The Governor General delivers remarks
2:25 p.m. - The Royal Military College Canada (RMCC) Sequence


-- Pipes and drums
-- Highland dancers
-- Aboriginal cultural performance
-- Historical re-enactment from Old 18 Historical Drill Team / Gun Run
3:05 p.m. - The Regimental Band of the Governor General's Foot Guards


-- Music from Star Wars
3:15 p.m. - The Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces


-- Traditional and contemporary military music
3:30 p.m. - The Canadian Armed Forces Massed Brass and Reed Band


-- Performance of "Snake Fence Country", a tribute to the late Canadian
composer Howard Cable
3:40 p.m. - Finale Sequence

-- "Royal Salute"
