Largest Cinco de Mayo Festival in the Pacific Northwest Returns to Portland for 32nd Year

PORTLAND, Ore., April 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Portland Guadalajara Sister City Association announces their 32(nd) Annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, Oregon's largest multicultural festival, commencing Thursday, May 5(th) through Sunday, May 8(th) at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in downtown Portland, Oregon. This festival is the primary fundraiser for PGSCA's charitable activities and will feature fun for all ages, including authentic food, live entertainment, and carnival rides.

Attracting thousands, Portland's Cinco de Mayo Fiesta keeps it authentic by flying in Mariachi de Ciudad Guadalajara as well as several artisans from the state of Jalisco, Mexico, whom will show off their handmade crafts and artwork. Joining the Mariachi on stage will be Oregon's own Ballet Folkórico Mexico en La Piel, cloaked in colorful dresses resembling a spinning tropical garden.

Gates will open from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily and admission includes two stages of live entertainment, special events such as amateur boxing and lucha libre wrestling, a live butterfly exhibit and a kid-friendly area with crafts and face painting. Admission is $10 for adults and kids 13 and older; $5 for seniors over 62 and kids under 13; kids under 6 enter free.

Feeling frugal? Guests visiting on Friday, May 6th will have free gate admission all day.

When asked what he likes most about the Fiesta, Antonio Carrillo, PGSCA president says, "My favorite event is not as well-known, and that is our Naturalization Ceremony taking place on Thursday, May 5th. As an annual tradition, we work with the USCIS to host a beautiful ceremony where over 50 new U.S. citizens take their Oath of Allegiance." Mayor Charlie Hales is scheduled to attend the ceremony and the new citizens and their families will be greeted by Portland's Royal Rosarians, the official greeters of the city.
