BOGOTA, Colombia, June 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bogota Music Market -BOmm has opened registrations for all musicians, bands, singers, songwriters, producers and managers who wish to participate in this promotional and broadcasting platform. BOmm offers opportunities to buyers, producers, publishers, agencies, tours and festivals to discover the very latest in the Colombian music industry scene and reach agreements, alliances and business opportunities with the people involved.
This year, the BOmm hopes to exceed the new business drummed up during last year's version, which generated about USD 2.3 million in new opportunities for the industry through 2,000 scheduled appointments between buyers and participants. The 150 musical proposals that are preselected will have the opportunity to participate in the business conference which will host over 60 international and 40 local buyers.
Registration is free and will be open until July 3 at www.bogotamusicmarket.com. Artists must fill out a form and attach samples of their music and videos, so that a team of renowned curators can select proposals based on artistic quality, originality, modernity of the proposal, projection, commercial potential and presence in social networks.
"This year there are several new features in the BOmm. Mexico, which is the largest consumer of Colombian music, will be the guest of honor with renowned buyers and speakers. The Market traditionally takes place over two days but this year there'll be a third day with a component that we're calling BOmm Labs, an academic forum for discussion of topics such as music journalism and crowdfunding for the music industry," says Adriana Padilla, Director of the BOmm for the Bogota Chamber of Commerce.
Bogota, Creative City of Music
Colombia is a multicultural country with amazing musical riches which converge on its capital and where the different rhythms and genres merge together. Thanks to its diversity, Bogota has everything from urban groups that research and fuse Colombian sounds to chamber orchestras, passing through indie bands that experiment with alternative sounds and make them their own. The Colombian capital moves en masse around music, with more than 600 places for live concerts and festivals such as the International Music Festival of Bogota, the Al Parque Festivals (Rock, Hip-Hop, Opera, Jazz and Colombian rhythms), the Stereo Picnic Festival, the Centro Festival and the Festival of Sacred Music, among many others.
The music industry in Bogota is also an engine of economic and social growth and development: about 500 music companies generate more than 1,000 direct jobs, representing 7.5% of the formal employment in the local creative economy. Festivals, markets, education centers, entrepreneurs and large-scale concerts are proof that Bogota's music scene is vibrantly growing.
Thanks to the vitality of its music scene, in 2012 UNESCO pronounced Bogota one of 69 cities in the world that make up the Creative Cities Network, of which only 5 together with Bogota share the Music City category.
