Local, Public and Student Winners to be honored June 22, 2015 at the New York Hilton Hotel
WASHINGTON, June 4, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation (AWMF) is pleased to announce that Tamron Hall, co-host of third hour of NBC News' "TODAY" and anchor of MSNBC's "NewsNation," will serve as host of the 40(th) Annual Gracies Awards Luncheon. This event will honor the accomplishments of women in media and entertainment at the local, public and student levels on June 22, 2015 at the New York Hilton Hotel in New York City. A celebration that spans two coasts, the Gracies Gala recently honored national and online winners at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on May 19, 2015.
The Gracies recognize exemplary programming created by women, for women and about women in all facets of media, as well as individuals who have made contributions to the industry. The awards program also encourages the realistic and multifaceted portrayal of women in entertainment, news, features and other programs.
"The Gracies Luncheon provides an opportunity to celebrate accomplishments of talented women in the media industry," said AWMF Chair Kristen Welch. "Tamron Hall is a highly-skilled broadcast journalist with a background in local news which makes her a perfect fit as host of the Gracies Luncheon."
In addition to hosting the third hour of NBC News' "TODAY" and anchoring MSNBC's "NewsNation," Hall also hosts "Deadline: Crime" on Investigation Discovery channel. She has hosted several special reports for MSNBC and NBC News and served as correspondent of the NBC News special "The Inauguration of Barack Obama," which won an Emmy for Outstanding Live Coverage in October 2010. Prior to joining MSNBC in July 2007, Tamron spent 10 years at WFLD in Chicago, where she held a number of positions including general assignment reporter, consumer reporter and host of the three-hour "Fox News in the Morning" program. She also anchored the weekday mornings and served as a noon anchor.
"Throughout my career I've been fortunate to have women in our field to help guide and advise me along the way, anything from major decisions to the small day to day decisions we make as female journalists," said Hall. "Because of this I am compelled to help the next generation and very honored to be a part of the Gracies Luncheon."
