The debut album by Yoan - #1 in sales in Canada!
33 926 copies sold: the best start
by an artist from Quebec in 3 years!
Baby What You Want Me to Do,
his first single available on DMDS
MONTREAL, April 1, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - This week, we witnessed a genuine
phenomenon in the Québec music market. Rising young singer-songwriter Yoan, the big winner of La Voix II, Québec's version of The Voice, came charging out of the blocks with his first album, selling 33 926
copies of his debut album, according to Nielsen SoundScan! An even
stronger start than international stars like Madonna or Imagine
Dragons, this represents the best opening sales for an album in Canada
this year and the biggest first week sales by any artist from Quebec in
the past 3 years!
On the heels of this excellent news, Productions J takes the opportunity to service radio stations in English Canada with Baby What You Want Me to Do, the first Anglophone single from Yoan's album. Written by Jimmy Reed in 1959, the song has been covered by
many iconic artists including The Everly Brothers, Neil Young and even
Elvis Presley. Indeed, Yoan had chosen the song for his performance during the quarter-finals of La Voix II last winter, watched by over 2.6 million viewers.
Yoan's debut albumfeatures collaborations from his coach on La Voix, Isabelle Boulay, as well as rising Canadian country star Brett Kissel, who both perform memorable duets with Yoan: J'entends siffler le train, the French adaptation of 500 Miles by Hedy West, and Good Hearted Woman, the classic by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson.
"When I heard Yoan's voice for the first time, I immediately knew we'd make a brilliant
duo," says Brett Kissel. "His deep vocals complement my higher ones, and we both love the same
genre of music. Waylon Jennings was one of our shared idols, so it made perfect sense to choose Good Hearted Woman for the duet, since in addition to being a classic, it's got a great
rhythm. I'm really happy with the result, and wish Yoan the very best
with his debut album!"
