OCCUPY THE FARM film opens in 17 more US cities November 14

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- After a strong first weekend in Berkeley, the film OCCUPY THE FARM will open in 17 more cities across America on Friday, November 14: Albuquerque, Austin, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, San Diego, Santa Cruz, Seattle, Vancouver WA, and Washington DC.

OCCUPY THE FARM tells the story of a community's fight to save public land for urban farming. When 200 farmers march to the gates of the last farmland in California's urban East Bay, they don't carry signs protesting University of California's plans to build a shopping center. Instead, they carry tents, tools and 15,000 seedlings. They clip the padlock off the gate and march onto the fields. What happens next will change the fate of the land and reveal a new strategy for activism. From tilling soil to police raids, from lawsuits to overflowing harvests, OCCUPY THE FARM shows a resourceful and determined community responding to a serious social need: access to healthy food.

"When I saw urban farmers joining forces with activists from Occupy Oakland, I sensed an epic story about food justice. We "occupied" the occupation with our cameras and followed these smart, passionate farmers as they defended the land with courage and creativity. Their success will change the face of activism and inspire communities everywhere."
- Todd Darling, Director, OCCUPY THE FARM"When millions of young people grow up without access to fruits and vegetables, it sets them back for life and leads to burgeoning public health issues. OCCUPY THE FARM participants describe their cause as "food justice" because lack of access to healthy food in your community is not just a public health issue--it's a social justice issue."
- Steve Brown, Producer, OCCUPY THE FARMOCCUPY THE FARM opened in Berkeley and will be held over for a second full week. See below for details on theater locations. For updates follow http://facebook.com/occupythefarmfilm.
