School Is One of Only Four in the U.S. Selected to Participate in National Geographic's Big Cats Initiative Sister School Program

Smith Is Featured in "Man v. Lion" on Nat Geo WILD Friday, Nov. 28, at 9 PM ET, Launching the Network's Fifth Annual Big Cat Week

WHAT:
Fourth-generation big cat wrangler Boone Smith will speak to students of Hyde-Addison Elementary School in Washington, DC, about his work catching, collaring and releasing big cats for conservation research. He will also show video clips of his work that have been featured on Nat Geo WILD.

Hyde-Addison was one of four U.S. schools selected in 2014 to participate in National Geographic's Big Cats Sister School Program, which pairs U.S. schools with schools in Kenya, Tanzania and Botswana under the shared theme of big cat conservation. As part of this unique cultural exchange, students in all four countries learn why big cats are important to the ecosystem and how they are perceived in each country, using photos, letters, essays, stories, virtual assemblies and other forms of digital media to connect.

The school's second and third grade students will watch video clips from Boone's Man v. Lion Big Cat Week special and from other programs he's done for Nat Geo WILD, including Snow Leopard of Afghanistan and American Cougar. Boone will also do a Q&A with students.
