Experience the Making of Team SCA: The Female Team That Just Completed the First Leg of the Volvo Ocean Race in an Epic Battle

No Ordinary Women TV series follows the selection and training of first female team in the race in over a decade

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SCA, a leading global hygiene and forest products company with Americas headquarters in Philadelphia, today announced the airing of No Ordinary Women in the United States. No Ordinary Women is an inspirational TV-series following the lives of a group of world-class female athletes as they prepare to take on sailing's toughest event, the Volvo Ocean race. The unique four-episode TV series follows the training and making of the female team that fought tooth-and-nail to arrive in Capetown, South Africa in sixth place last Friday. In a battle that was raging for days, Team SCA maneuvered to deliver a game-changing blow to the Spanish men's team, MAPFRE, passing them in the final 10 miles of the 7,000 mile leg. No Ordinary Women will air on NBC Universal Sports at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on four consecutive Mondays: November 17, November 24, December 1 and December 8. Two reruns each will air during the week following each episode.

Fans around the world have been following Team SCA online and through social media. No Ordinary Women provides another opportunity to get to know the women and learn what it takes to be on the Team SCA squad.

The Volvo Ocean Race, which is one of sailing's "Big Three" events along with the America's Cup and the Olympics. Team SCA was the first to announce an entry for the 12th edition of the race, which launched from Alicante, Spain, on October 11, 2014. A female team is uncommon for the sailing competition (there hasn't been one in more than a decade) due, in part, to the intense physical challenges of the race. However, all boat entries this time are using the exact same boat design, which levels the playing field.

For SCA, the Volvo Ocean Race journey started in 2012 when the company decided to participate with a female crew in alignment with a key focus of the company - respect for nature - and as an opportunity to raise the profile of SCA and its brands in the U.S. in a way that supports B2B customers. SCA global hygiene brands include Tork® dispensers, napkin, towel, tissue and wiper products used in commercial settings, and TENA® incontinence care products used by consumers at home and in healthcare facilities.

From the start of the Team SCA process, the No Ordinary Women TV-crew captured and recorded the fascinating story of how this female squad was selected and trained. Viewers will be able to follow their favorite sailor through this process and see behind-the scenes-footage of the challenging physical and mental preparations in the lead-up to the 39,000 nautical mile round-the-world race. Produced by Strix Television, each episode also features a couple of the crew members in their home environment, and they share the choices they had to make in order to join this extreme racing challenge.

Over 250 women from across the world applied for one of 13 spots on the Team SCA squad. The final squad, including one on-board reporter, of the Team SCA comprises 14 women from Great Britain, USA, Switzerland, Australia and The Netherlands. This team represents the best of the best in female sailing with experiences from numerous challenging races around the world, including Olympic racing sailing and around-the-world solo races.
