HONG KONG, Oct. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/-- City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong (CCOHK) invites the 90-year-old British conductor SirNeville Marriner and his son,Andrew Marriner to lift the curtain on the CCOHK's 15th Season on 07 November 2014 at Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium, 8pm. Founder and conductor of the world acclaimed Academy ofSt Martin in the Fields, 90-year-old Sir Neville Marriner is a legend in the music world with more than 500 recordings to his name. This is his first visit toHong Kong in more than 15 years. He is joined on stage by his son and principal clarinettist of the London Symphony Orchestra,Andrew Marriner for the Asian premiere of Howard Blake's Concerto for Clarinet in the presence of the composer. CCOHK will also perform a selection of other British works under Sir Neville's baton including Delius' Two Pieces for Small Orchestra and Elgar's charming Serenade for Strings. A performance of Haydn's Symphony No.104 entitled TheLondon will bring the programme to a brilliant conclusion.

Life President of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Sir Neville Marriner began his distinguished career as a violinist, playing regularly as a chamber musician in a string quartet and as a member of the London Symphony Orchestra. In 1958 he founded the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and created an extraordinary legacy with this orchestra. With more than 500 recordings to its name, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields is one of the world's most recorded chamber orchestras and its partnership with SirNeville Marriner remains the most recorded of any orchestra and conductor. In 1969 SirNeville Marriner began his conducting career and founded the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. His reputation as a conductor flourished independently and alongside his work with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. From 1979 to 1986 he was appointed Music Director of The Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra and in 1986 succeeded Sergiu Celibidache as Principal Conductor of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since the 1980's he has also guest conducted many orchestras around the globe inVienna, Berlin, Paris, Milan, Athens, New York andTokyo. In recognition of his services to music in the UK, Sir Neville Marriner was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1979 and was created a Knight Bachelor in 1985. He has also been awarded with honours inFrance, Germany and Sweden. His illustrious recording career is well documented on labels such as Decca, Argo, L'Oiseau Lyre, Philips and EMI Classics and includes a contribution to the soundtrack of the multi award-winning film Amadeus. Andrew Marriner is principal clarinettist of the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) since 1986 following the footsteps of the lateJack Brymer. From 1987 to 2008 he also served as principal clarinettist of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. During his distinguished orchestral career, he has also maintained a place on the worldwide solo concert platform and as a chamber musician, appearing at venues such as The Barbican, La Scala inMilan, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Musikverein in Vienna and across the USA and Australia. He is a member of the LSO Chamber Ensemble and has collaborated with the Chilingirian, Endellion,Moscow, Warsaw and Belcea String Quartets and distinguished musicians such asAlfred Brendel, Andre Previn, Andras Schiff, Lynn Harrell, Stephen Isserlis, Emmanuel Ax and Helene Grimaud.
