FRC Action Runs Radio Ads on Indiana Marriage Amendment

INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Family Research Council Action (FRC Action) today launched radio ads on Christian radio stations throughout Indiana urging listeners to contact their state representatives to support the proposed Indiana marriage amendment.

This morning, FRC Action, Indiana Family Institute, and American Family Association of Indiana held a news conference in the Indiana State House calling on legislators to support the Indiana marriage amendment, unchanged, and protect the definition of marriage from activist judges.

During the press conference, FRC Senior Fellow Peter Sprigg made the following comments:

"Across the country, our most fundamental social institution is under attack. Marriage exists as a public institution, and not merely as a private relationship, because of the public purposes it serves.

"Society needs children; children need a mother and a father. Those are the only reasons why marriage is a public, not purely private, institution. And the only type of relationship which can naturally fulfill those important public purposes is the union of a woman and a man. It is irrational to treat any other structural type of relationship as a marriage.

"Indiana has the opportunity, this week, to protect the definition of marriage as the union of a woman and a man; to protect the uniqueness of marriage and its legal incidents and benefits; and to protect the freedom of those who recognize that uniqueness.

"The legislature should act now."

The ad transcript reads:

"The Indiana House will soon decide whether you will have the right to vote on the future of marriage. Redefining natural marriage is about far more than the marriage altar; it is about fundamentally altering society. In the wake of same-sex marriage, religious freedom and parental rights have been lost. Business owners, like florists, bakers and photographers have been hauled into court, fined and even put out of business for simply refusing to participate in a same-sex wedding. But it doesn't stop there; university professors, sportscasters and even members of the military have been demoted or fired for simply believing marriage is the union of man and woman. Families have been impacted as parents have lost the right to determine whose values are taught to their children. Your Freedoms are at stake! Call your state Representative today at 1 (800) 382-9842. Ask them to pass the Marriage Protection Amendment, unchanged. Again, the number is 1 (800) 382-9842. Paid for by Indiana friends of FRC Action."
