On 3 February 2014, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Felix Mendelssohn, the
extended Mendelssohn House Leipzig will reopen with a new floor. It is the world's only
Mendelssohn museum and located in his last private apartment. New interactive features
include an audio-video library as well as an "Effektorium" - a conductor's podium to

To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Richard Strauss Leipzig Opera and the
Leipzig Gewandhaus will present a Strauss cycle from April through July 2014. On 14 June,
"Die Frau ohne Schatten" will premiere with a world-class cast at Leipzig Opera House.
Furthermore "Elektra" and "Der Rosenkavalier" will be resumed. The Vienna Philharmonic
under conductor Christoph Eschenbach will be performing a Strauss programme in the
Gewandhaus with Lang Lang on 24 May while the actual birthday concert on 11 June is

The 300th anniversary of the birth of Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach, Johann Sebastian
Bach's second oldest son, will be celebrated with numerous events and a special exhibition
in Leipzig. Under the banner "The True Art" next year's edition of Bachfest Leipzig will
commemorate the life and work of C. P. E. Bach from 13-22 June 2014.
