Ghostbot, Inc. Award Winner in the 2013 Ottawa International Animation Festival

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Independent animation studio Ghostbot, Inc. received the Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) 2013 Best Short Animation for Children Award for "Written By A Kid: La Munkya." The short was directed by co-founder and previous OIAF award winner, Roque Ballesteros, and features the animated reimagining of 6-year-old Emily's tale of a ravenous paper horse named La Munkya.

"Written By A Kid" is the brainchild of Will Bowles and Josh Flaum (Attack of the Show!, The Underground), and supervised by the comedic direction of Daniel Strange (Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis, Stiller & Meara) and web series pioneer Kim Evey (The Guild, Tabletop). With over 230,000 views on YouTube, "La Munkya" has become a fan favorite due to the inventive and bizarrely charming interpretation of the story and is one of the most watched episodes of the series. The OIAF jury congratulated the short on its "happy and creative" content.

"To win an award at OIAF a second time is a big honor," Ballesteros said. "It gives me a little extra pride because I respect the festival so much and what they represent. OIAF promotes and awards international animation so their programs span from mainstream Hollywood films to obscure independent artists from all over the world. They are also big on fostering the community aspect of the festival, so it's a great place to meet artists with different worldviews who you wouldn't normally get the opportunity to cross paths with."
