'Breaking Bad' Tops HitFix's Second Annual Television Critics Poll; 'Orange is the New Black' Voted Best New Program of 2013

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- HitFix (http://www.hitfix.com) announced today that "Breaking Bad" has been chosen as the top television series of 2013 in HitFix's Second Annual Television Critics' Poll. The AMC network and Sony Pictures Television's Emmy winning series also topped last year's inaugural poll.

Following "Breaking Bad," the rest of this year's list includes (in the following order) "Orange is the New Black," "Game of Thrones," "The Good Wife," "Masters of Sex," "Mad Men," "The Americans," "House of Cards," "Broadchurch," and "Top of the Lake."

For the second edition of the poll, participants were also asked to vote for the top 10 new television programs of 2013. Netflix's "Orange is the New Black" came out on top followed by "Masters of Sex" and "The Americans" which tied for second place.

"In such a deep and broad year for quality television, these shows had stiff competition to make our top 10 lists," said Alan Sepinwall, HitFix's Sr. Editor and TV Critic. "We knew 'Breaking Bad' would do well, but it's impressive to see so many new shows like 'Orange Is the New Black' and 'Masters of Sex' make the overall top 10."

Over 50 critics from outlets such as Time, USA Today, The Hollywood Reporter, Entertainment Weekly, TV Guide, NPR, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post and Vulture participated. The vote totals for each critic as well as every show that received a vote are available at HitFix.com/TVCriticsPoll.

Each critic submitted their top 10 television programs of the year and the votes were determined on a ranked system (#1 pick receives 10 votes, #2 pick receives 9 votes, etc.). A complete list of all this year's critics and programs can be found at HitFix.com/TVCriticsPoll.
