Proud Mainers Dedicating Their Professions to Changing Lives Join TideSmart Talk with Stevoe

Developer of the DC defibrillator and Preble Street executive director featured on November 30th show

FALMOUTH, Maine, Nov. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- In separate interviews this week with TideSmart Talk with Stevoe, a weekly radio show that takes a macro approach towards society and culture, host Steve Woods was joined by two Mainers who have dedicated their careers to changing lives. Nobel Peace Prize winner and University of Maine graduate, Dr. Bernard Lown and executive director of Preble Street, Mark Swann discussed how it is morally imperative to be the change you wish to see in the world.

The show will air Saturday, November 30, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on News Talk WLOB 1310AM and will be live streamed at http://www.wlobradio.com. A podcast will be made available via iTunes and at http://www.tidesmartradio.com. In the show's first hour, Woods, who is also President/CEO of Tidesmart Global, was joined by the world-renowned Dr. Bernard Lown, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of The Lown Institute, developer of the defibrillator, a Gandhi Peace Prize winner, Nobel Peace Prize winner and University of Maine graduate.

During the show's opening segment, Woods and Lown talked about the development and the technology of the DC defibrillator, and how it has been life changing all around the globe. Lown also discussed his work co-founding SatelLife and ProCor, as well as the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), for which Lown won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985. The threat of nuclear war is no longer our biggest concern, Lown said.

"Climate change now is bigger than nuclear threat, because nuclear wouldn't destroy all life," he said. Woods agreed, adding that "climate change is changing the chemistry of the world, and could lead to a catastrophe of unimagined magnitude." Reflecting on the interview with Lown, Woods called it his most rewarding interview to date. "Having the opportunity to speak with Dr. Lown, one of Maine's finest citizens, was a real honor," he said.

In the show's second hour, Mark Swann, Executive Director of Preble Street visited the studio to discuss social service issues in Portland and around the country. "I grew up in a kind home with others who helped people, and I wanted to do good work," Swann said. Swann urges others who want to help, to contact their local Congressional Representative to support SNAP and food stamps programs.
