2013-2014 Michael E. DeBakey Journalism Awards Call for Entries - Viral Video

$2,500 Award for Best Biomedical Research Viral Video

WASHINGTON, Nov. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Foundation for Biomedical Research (FBR) announced today it is accepting entries for the 13(th) annual Michael E. DeBakey Journalism Awards in the viral video category. The awards, named after FBR's late chairman, Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, honor new stories and videos that enhance public understanding of how biomedical research leads to medical and scientific discoveries. The first place viral video winner will receive $2,500; the second place winner will receive $1,000.

"The DeBakey Award is one of the most coveted prizes in the biomedical research world and video is the most powerful medium we have when it comes to telling a story," said FBR executive vice president Paul McKellips. "The viral video DeBakey Award will honor outstanding online videos that tell a profound, comedic or buzz-worthy story about how biomedical research is saving human and animal lives today."

In 2013, FBR honored the Goodman Cancer Research Centre's "McGill Dances for Cancer Research," which cleverly highlights the groundbreaking biomedical research being conducted at the institution.

Entries in the viral video category must clearly demonstrate the benefits of biomedical research and how it is enhancing human and/or animal health. The viral video winners will receive a Michael E. DeBakey Journalism Award, a cash prize and a trip to Washington, DC, to attend the awards ceremony held on June 18, 2014, at the JW Marriott Hotel. Viral video entries to the 2013-2014 Michael E.
