CHICAGO, July 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The insurance industry took the spotlight Thursday night at the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation's (IICF) inaugural Rock of Charity. The event, held at Chicago's Hard Rock Cafe', was hosted by the Midwest Division's Associate Board and drew over 250 guests for a unique charity battle of bands fundraiser that featured musical groups with an insurance industry connection.

Associate Board Chair Clark Wormer remarked, "The outstanding turnout at our inaugural Rock for Charity highlights the strong desire of our industry to support our local community." Wormer who is Director of Mergers and Acquisitions of Hub International Limited continued, "There is some impressive musical talent from within the insurance industry. It is great to see both IICF Associate and Midwest Division Board members showcase their talents to benefit four outstanding nonprofits."
Taking the stage to compete in the charity band battle was: Slim Pickings, Bob's Yur Uncle, the Nuisance, and Greenpilot. Each band competed on behalf of their respective designated charities: Children's Home + Aid, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Polish American Association, and Evans Scholars.
Taking home top prize was Greenpilot, competing on behalf of Evans Scholars Foundation. IICF contributed $4,500 to Evans Scholars and $15,000 in total grants to the four charities combined.
The IICF provides an opportunity for professionals from across the industry to come together in a united philanthropic effort, raising vital funds for local nonprofits. Locally in the Midwest, the IICF has provided over $300,000 to nonprofits in the fields of areas of education, safety, and health.
