SUPER RTL Agrees To Extensive Multi-Year Content Deal with DreamWorks Animation
COLOGNE, Germany, June 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SUPER RTL, the German children's TV market leader for 15 years, and DreamWorks Animation (Nasdaq: DWA), the world's largest animation studio and home to the Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar franchises, have agreed to terms on a five-year television output agreement beginning in September 2013. This extensive deal includes more than 1100 programming half-hours and secures a supply of high-quality animated series for the station.
The licensing agreement includes new television series inspired by DreamWorks' hit franchises and future films, the first two of which will be How to Train Your Dragon and a show based on the soon-to-be-released Turbo (July 2013). All original series produced by DreamWorks Animation will air exclusively throughout Germany on the Cologne-based kids' and family broadcaster. SUPER RTL will also be getting access to the DreamWorks Classics library, which includes some of the most popular animation produced in the last 50 years.
SUPER RTL Managing Director Claude Schmit comments: "For us this strategic partnership constitutes a milestone in the station's history. Our relationship with DreamWorks Animation, one of the most globally recognized entertainment brands, will be able to elevate our profile as the go-to station for young viewers. With access to this incredible library of content, we are now excellently equipped to compete in a crowded marketplace."
Eric Ellenbogen, Co-head of DreamWorks Classics, who led the transaction for DreamWorks Animation, added: "SUPER RTL is truly an ideal home for our new television slate. Our characters will have the widest possible audience on the leading kids' channel in Germany for years to come."
