Access Point Overcomes Storage Limitations of Smartphones, Tablets for On-the-Go Enjoyment of Movies, Photos and Documents



FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif., June 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- IOGEAR has armed busy families and travelers with a tool to bring an arsenal of their favorite content on the road with the launch of the new MediaShair Hub today. The MediaShair Hub makes movies, photos and large documents wirelessly accessible from up to seven devices through its own secure Wi-Fi network, including from both iOS and Android products with an easy-to-use, free downloadable app. The new product effectively addresses the storage challenges of smartphones, tablets and other popular devices.

The MediaShair Hub is competitively priced (MSRP: $99.95) and provides access to external storage devices such as a USB Flash drive, external hard drive or SD card. Family members can fill storage devices with favorite TV shows ahead of a trip, then individually access favorite episodes wirelessly on their own devices during a layover in an airport terminal or on a plane with MediaShair's built in Wi-Fi network. Unlike most competitors, MediaShair Hub can play files larger than 4 GB in size, and multiple users can access the same item without compromising viewing quality, such as sharing pictures taken from a camera.

The MediaShair's Access Point feature allows Internet connectivity by joining an existing wireless network or connecting an Ethernet cable, such as in a hotel room. It transforms the hard-wired Internet connection into a Wi-Fi network by becoming its own personal hotspot for multiple devices.

The MediaShair Hub is light and small, weighing just .25lb and measuring 3.74" L x .59" H x 2.79" W. To keep it powered, the MediaShair Hub has a built-in battery that lasts up to nine hours between charges. Beyond its wireless access capabilities, the MediaShair Hub can become a portable power station by plugging a charging cable into the USB port for an infusion of power to smartphones, cameras or other devices. The MediaShair Hub itself can be charged by plugging into an included car charger, a standard USB port, or a USB charger similar to those included with most smartphones and tablets.

The MediaShair Hub is available online at www.iogear.com and through major distribution channels. The MediaShair app is available as a free download through the Apple iTunes App Store and Google Play Store for tablets and smartphones. Laptops can access the MediaShair Hub without the app by using a provided IP address. The MediaShair Hub supports HFS+, NTFS and FAT32 file formats and is compatible with external storage devices formatted for Windows or Mac. It also features a wireless connection range of up to 50 feet.
