Call For Entries Announced For The 2013 NAMIC Vision Awards
NEW YORK, Nov. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) is now accepting entries for the 2013 NAMIC Vision Awards, a collaboration led by the NAMIC-Southern California chapter. Launched in 1994, the NAMIC Vision Awards honor original programming content created for television and digital platforms that best reflects the increasingly diverse, multi-ethnic and multi-cultural viewing audience. This year, the 2013 NAMIC Vision Awards will have some new categories to reflect the changing media ecosystem. Entries received by the January 9, 2013 deadline will be eligible for consideration.
Presented annually by NAMIC-Southern California, the nominees will be presented via the 2013 NAMIC Vision Awards Winners Gallery. The online gallery will feature video clips showcasing winning programs in the 21 award categories. Additionally, NAMIC members will have the opportunity to cast their votes and select their favorite program from the field of winning entries to be named the 2013 Members' Choice Award recipient. A new 2013 Members' Favorite Award will give NAMIC members the opportunity to recognize an on-air host or personality in two categories - Entertainment and News/Informational. Award categories include: Animation, Awards & Honors, Children's, Comedy, Documentary, Drama, Foreign Language, Lifestyle, News/Informational, Original Movie or Special, Reality, Reality - Social Issues, Spanish Language Series, Sports, Travel & Adventure, Variety/Talk Show, Best Performance - Comedy, Best Performance - Drama, Digital Media - Short and Long Form, and Digital Media - Web Series.
"The NAMIC Vision Awards continues to be the premier competition that showcases the increasingly diverse content that depicts the depth, breadth and spirit of people of color on television and digital platforms," said NAMIC president and CEO, Dr. Nicol Turner-Lee. "As multi-ethnic content offerings have grown, we have added new categories in the 2013 competition to reflect this burgeoning market."
Original programs must have aired from November 1, 2011 to November 10, 2012 to be eligible for submission.
The NAMIC Vision Awards competition extends eligibility to:
-- Broadcast Networks (National, Network-Owned and Operated, Affiliates)
-- Cable Networks (National and Regional)
-- Cable Operators (Local Origination Programs)
-- Syndicators (First-Run Original Programs)
-- VOD (Cable and/or Broadcast Content for Digital Platforms Including
Web/Mobile)
Judging will be focused on overall imagery (creativity, originality and presentation); sensitivity (the consideration given to social or cultural nuances); writing (the depiction of issues relevant to people of color); and the quality of acting in the performance categories. A select panel of entertainment industry executives and content creators will comprise the judging panel. Nominations will be announced in mid-April 2013. An event highlighting the top award categories will be hosted in Los Angeles, CA in 2013.
