HIGH CARD TRUMPS is a narrative short film about Lois, a headstrong woman and soon-to-be champion grandmother, who is anxious to share her good news with the volunteers of her monthly Support-Our-Troops bake sale. But when an Arab mother joins them, Lois's pride and definition of patriotism are challenged. The story examines the confrontation between these two mothers and the themes of honor, sacrifice, and patriotism.
HIGH CARD TRUMPS was written by Stacey Parshall Jensen and directed by Geoffrey Quan. The film stars April Grace (Last Resort, Magnolia, I am Legend, Lost, American Horror Story), Anoush NeVart, Debra Olson-Tolar, and JaeNedy Roman. The film was produced by Frances E. Chang, with cinematography by Carmen Cabana and editing by Cristina Malavenda.
The Veterans Day National Ceremony is held each year on November 11th at Arlington National Cemetery. The ceremony commences precisely at 11:00 a.m. with a wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and continues inside the Memorial Amphitheater with a parade of colors by Veterans' organizations and remarks from dignitaries. The ceremony is intended to honor and thank all who served in the United States Armed Forces. NeVart performed for the June 10, 2012 "Home For the Brave" benefit concert (www.homeforthebraveconcert.com) which raised over $70,000 in one day to help fund temporary housing for homeless vets.
