Zombies Unite On 'World Zombie Day' To Demonstrate Nationwide Grassroots Support To Return AMC's "THE WALKING DEAD" to DISH Network

As Preview of the Nationwide Protests Over the Impending "Zombieless Halloween" the Undead Shuffle Through D.C. Streets on Friday, October 12

NEW YORK, Oct. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The undead are uniting by the tens of thousands across the US to celebrate World Zombie Day on Saturday, October 13. This year, the annual spectacle will have an additional purpose -- one dear to the unbeating hearts of every zombie fan -- to return AMC's THE WALKING DEAD to the homes of DISH Network subscribers.

Since DISH dropped AMC Networks in July due to an unrelated lawsuit, the zombie multitudes are facing a grave crisis: millions of TV viewers will not have access to the Sunday, October 14 premiere of the third season of AMC's THE WALKING DEAD, and may be facing a zombieless Halloween.

Today in Washington, D.C. lawmakers, lobbyists and citizens are getting a preview of Saturday's World Zombie Day protests. Die-hard zombies are gathering to "voice" their concern with protests at high-profile sites including Lafayette Square Park and The Washington Monument, from 11 am - 3 pm.

"We need THE WALKING DEAD back on DISH and we're willing to lend a hand, well actually any limb needed, to do it!" said Brandon May, an organizer of the Zombie 5K Buffets in Columbus, Jacksonville, Phoenix and Nashville.

"It is a true Zombie crisis! Zombies fans are frothing at the mouth because many of us cannot see THE WALKING DEAD," said Jonathan Ackerman, organizer of the Zombie Pub Crawl -- one of the largest World Zombie Day Events in the US. "We are uniting to show our support for THE WALKING DEAD, and encouraging all DISH subscribers to switch from DISH!"

"Choosing a service that offers the AMC family of programming networks is a no-brainer. Have the 'guts' to switch from Dish and get your fill of THE WALKING DEAD and other great shows. Mmmm....brains and guts!" said Rich Hartwick, organizer of Zombie Walk Detroit.

Zombie lovers who will not be marching can lend their support by taking to Twitter, and tweeting, "TV without #TheWalkingDead is like #Halloween without zombies. Our unbeating hearts go out to @DISH customers missing Sunday's premiere!"

DISH dropped AMC, as well as its sister networks, IFC, WE tv and Sundance Channel to gain leverage in an unrelated lawsuit. DISH customers may find information at www.switchfromdish.com. DISH subscribers can register for access to the free live stream of the third season premiere episode of "The Walking Dead" at http://www.amctv.com/thewalkingdead4dish/.

"The Walking Dead" reigns as the most watched drama series on basic cable for Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 and is the highest rated scripted drama series among DISH subscribers (Source: Nielsen Media Research 4Q11 - 1Q12 A 18-49 (000) Dish Universe. The series has garnered two Emmy® Awards for Outstanding Prosthetic Make-up, a Golden Globe® Award nomination for Best Television Series - Drama, and a WGA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Writing Derivative New Media, among other accolades.
