BOCA RATON, Fla., Sept. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and City of Boca Raton, Fla. are hosting the only official "Rock the Vote in The Palm Beaches and Boca Raton Live Concert and Screening of the 2012 Presidential Debate, Presented by Xbox LIVE, Featuring Neon Trees." On Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 from 7-11 p.m., the Mizner Park Amphitheater in Downtown Boca is the backdrop for the concert and screening - just minutes away from Lynn University where the last Presidential Debate is taking place. This year, Rock the Vote is running the largest non partisan voter registration campaign with the goal of registering 1.5 million individuals in the upcoming election. The free event for those attending in person will feature the world famous DJ Skee and a performance by popular American alternative band Neon Trees, known most recently for their platinum hit single "Everybody Talks," which was featured in a Buick Verano commercial as well as reaching #1 on the Hot AC radio chart and holding steady in the Top 10 at Pop Radio. This concert will be streamed in real-time on Xbox LIVE, as part of its Election 2012 initiative, including interactive features allowing viewers to answer trivia questions and share their views on the election.
"This is a great opportunity to showcase our destination to millions of viewers around the world at an historic moment for our nation," stated CVB President Jorge Pesquera. "Visitors and viewers of all ages can enjoy the excitement - either live at Mizner Park, or from the comfort of their own home - thanks to Rock the Vote and Xbox."
Gates will open at 6 p.m. with music from DJ Skee. The event will feature live viewer and audience interaction and giveaways, including Xbox 360 entertainment consoles, overnight stays in The Palm Beaches and Boca Raton, and a grand-prize getaway to Washington, D.C. In addition, Rock the Vote street teams will be on-site to provide election information, including non partisan voter registrations guides and details on where to go and what to bring to cast a ballot on November 6. Neon Trees takes the stage at 7 p.m., followed by the screening of the Presidential Debate at 9 p.m. Visitors and residents attending the free event are encouraged to visit the RockTheVote.com, where they can RSVP in advance for their chance to win a Rock the Vote prize pack. Concert attendees will also have a chance to win Rock the Vote t-shirts, tickets to future concert events at Mizner Park Amphitheater, and other prizes. Pre-registration is not required to attend.
"Lynn University has created an opportunity for the community to unite during this historic time," stated Mayor of Boca Raton Susan Whelchel. "While people are watching around the globe, we'll have citizens, businesses, and students in our own downtown, enjoying a night of great live music and watching the debate together."
Continuing its successful partnership formed during the 2008 presidential election - which drove tens of thousands of citizens to register to vote and become active participants in the election process - Xbox has once again partnered with Rock the Vote to encourage and facilitate voter registration, and - for the first time - provide entertainment content to Xbox LIVE viewers with the streaming of the Neon Trees concert.
Through this innovative new experience, Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers - a large, diverse and actively engaged audience comprised of more than 40 million members worldwide - will be able to interact in real-time throughout the concert and presidential debate.
"We are excited to work with Rock the Vote to drive voter registration and provide the passionate Xbox LIVE community a way to enjoy and interact with the Neon Trees concert and the last Presidential Debate, not only as viewers, but as participants," said Jose Pinero, senior director of Xbox Public Relations at Microsoft.
"We are thrilled to be working with Xbox to deliver important election and voter registration content to millions of voters through this truly unique and impressive Xbox LIVE platform," said Chrissy Faessen, vice president of Marketing and Communications at Rock the Vote. "There's a growing audience of individuals getting their election information solely from online platforms, and Microsoft has set itself apart by providing for its users a level of content and interactivity that's second to none. This concert and live screening allows us to bring the debate and issues discussed to individuals across the country in a fun and exciting way."
