ITVS's Women And Girls Lead And CPB Present A Luncheon In Celebration Of Half The Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity For Women Worldwide
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In celebration of the highly anticipated Half the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide broadcast event, Independent Television Service (ITVS)'s Women and Girls Lead campaign in partnership with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and Show of Force Productions will present luncheon on September 11 at 12 p.m. at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The event will highlight the role public media plays in brining a spotlight on the challenges women and girls face around the world through a panel discussion featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter and New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, Half the Sky series Executive Producer Maro Chermayeff, and New Light founder Urmi Basu, among others.
A pillar of ITVS's three-year Women and Girls Lead public media initiative, the Half the Sky series is one in a catalog of over 50 documentaries showcasing extraordinary women and girls who are changing the world. Spearheaded by ITVS in collaboration with public broadcasting, NGO, and media partners, Women and Girls Lead seeks to engage audiences and create activities that promote leadership development, violence prevention, and economic empowerment.
