Flora-Bama Gives $3,500 To Assist In Healthcare Needs For New Orleans' Musicians After Hurricane Isaac

PENSACOLA, Fla., Sept. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Flora-Bama, the ageless Honky Tonk, located on the Gulf of Mexico, felt fortunate in having a better than average Labor Day weekend by narrowly escaping Hurricane Isaac's direct path.

In 2004, the Flora-Bama wasn't so lucky and took the brunt of Hurricane Ivan's wrath. In the meantime, our neighbors to the west immediately offered the Flora-Bama musicians a refuge to play at the then popular Papa Joe's on Bourbon Street.

Recently, when Hurricane Isaac struck New Orleans, the newly restored Roadhouse wanted to pay it forward to the New Orleans musicians. When asked, "What can we do?", Pam Fortner and Earl Bernhardt previous owners of Papa Joe's, presently owners of Tropical Isle, said the musicians needed it the most for healthcare.

They informed the Flora-Bama that many musicians would be seeking help at the New Orleans Musicians Assistance Foundation in their medical clinic! In response, the Flora-Bama will proudly be presenting a $3,500 check to NOMAF, New Orleans Musicians Assistance Foundation, dedicated in "helping sustain New Orleans culture by funding medical and social services for (their) beloved musicians and tradition bearers." The presentation will be Tuesday, September 25(th) around noon at Tropical Isle, 721 Bourbon Street.
