In addition, Encoding.com is announcing another $1.5 million infusion of capital from existing investors Metamorphic Ventures and other well-known angels to support the EDC Private Cloud and the proliferation of premium video content across all devices and browsers. "Our Encoding.com team has proven its ability to execute as the leading transcoding provider within the world of high-volume, short-form video," said Marc Michel, partner at Metamorphic Ventures. "We look forward to growing the business by leveraging our automation and scale to disrupt the high-end of the video market."
Studios, broadcasters and video-on-demand (VOD) providers can utilize the EDC Private Cloud to offload, automate and scale their video transcoding and packaging systems. The result is a powerful alternative to the expensive and complicated services provided by many traditional media post-production houses. The EDC Private Cloud platform features include: massive and secure file ingest, transcoding and muxing, adaptive bitrate packaging, surround sound encoding, Widevine digital rights management (DRM) and UltraViolet support.
"For Hollywood content suppliers, the challenges of moving and processing high-value, extremely large digital assets through the cloud have previously been insurmountable. It took too long or was too expensive," said Jeff Malkin, president at Encoding.com. "With the EDC Private Cloud, all premium content providers can now realize the benefit of extremely fast and secure processing in a highly elastic cloud model."
Incorporating best-in-class technology from ecosystem partners like Aspera, Dolby and Google's Widevine, the Encoding.com Private Cloud is a one-stop, automated solution for enabling long-form HD video content viewing on web browsers, mobile devices, smart TVs and set-top boxes.
"Aspera is thrilled to partner with Encoding.com to enable high-speed and secure transfer of long-form digital assets," said Michelle Munson, CEO at Aspera. "We believe that combining Aspera's fasp 3((TM))technology with the EDC Private Cloud provides a powerful video processing solution that meets the unique video requirements for studios and broadcasters."
"Dolby is excited to work with Encoding.com, a pioneer in cloud-based video encoding, to provide Hollywood with a powerful, automated solution to leverage Dolby's portfolio of high-end audio codecs designed to deliver a rich cinematic audio experience for content across all media," said JC Morizur, Senior Director, Professional Solutions and Products for Dolby Laboratories. "Dolby Digital Plus technology powered through the EDC Private Cloud delivers an immersive multichannel audio experience to consumers' home entertainment systems, PCs, tablets and mobile devices."
Encoding.com began working with EDC Private Cloud beta customers earlier this year. Midwest Tape, a full service distributor of DVDs, CDs and Audiobooks exclusively to public libraries, has partnered with Encoding.com to launch a new video-on-demand service later this year. "Using the EDC Private Cloud, we were able to offload our entire digital supply chain needs to accelerate our time to market for Hoopla, our exciting new VOD service launching via public libraries later this year," said Jeff Jankowski, Midwest Tape's vice president. "Encoding.com offered us a complete solution at a fraction of the price offered by traditional post-production houses or implementing in-house."
