Mexico's Finest Music and Film Stars Shine at London MexFest 2012

Represented Mexico's Cultural Presence at the London 2012 Olympics

MEXICO CITY, Aug. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being released today by Marca Pais - Imagen de Mexico:

As if becoming the Olympics gold medalist in soccer wasn't enough of a reason to celebrate already, Mexico's top music and film stars recently convened at the London MexFest 2012 to promote and celebrate the country's most recent artistic and cultural expressions at Rich Mix, one of downtown London's hip venues. MexicoToday was at the MexFest and captured the best moments of the event on video - watch them on our North America and UK websites.

The British Council's Mexico executive director Alan Gemmell shared the event's key highlights by saying, "the three-day festival launched with the world premiere of the film "Made in Mexico" directed by Duncan Bridgeman and produced by Lynn Fainchtein. We brought the celebrated Mexican director Michel Franco. We brought Mexican food from the London-based eatery Wahaca and one of Mexico's greatest performers Amandititita." When asked about what was the most exciting thing for him about the event, Gemmell said, "it was bringing Tupac Martir, one of Mexico's top artists who projected one of the most interesting pieces of visual art in London this summer at the [Rich Mix] building," he added.

Other Mexican artists participating at the MexFest London included film directors Diego Luna, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Michel Franco, and music artist DJ Chilango, among many others.

"Our main goal in curating the program was to represent the young generation of film makers in different genres, including shorts, animation, feature films, among others," said Mara Fortes from the Morelia International Film Festival, an annual event celebrating its tenth anniversary this year which is largely attended by the world's top filmmakers to be held on November 3-11, 2012 at the enchanting city of Morelia, Mexico.

"The idea of this festival was to offer a sample of what are the most exciting things that are happening in the arts, photography, music, and film industries. And also attract other audiences outside of Mexico towards what is happening in Mexico," said Elena Fortes from the Ambulante Documentary Film Festival.

Mexican firm Cinepolis, the world's third largest movie theatres group, and renowned tequila brand Jose Cuervo were the official sponsors of the London MexFest. Organizers of the event included the British Council, the National Council for Culture and Arts, the Mexican Film Institute, the Morelia International Film Festival, Ambulante and CANANA.
