Adams Morgan Day Festival: "ReDiscover Adams Morgan"

WASHINGTON, Aug. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Adams Morgan Main Street hosts the 34(th) annual Adams Morgan Day Festival on Sunday, Sept 9, 2012. Main location is 18(th) Street N.W. between Columbia Rd and Florida; with Kid's Fair & special pavilions at Marie Reed School. More than 25 different cultures are represented in this keenly anticipated event from Noon to 7 PM. "Arts on Belmont" opens at 10am.

The Festival theme, "Rediscover Adams Morgan," invites everyone to experience both the Cultural Street Festival and all the area has to offer, including local restaurants and retail, and especially the new streetscape. Adams Morgan has a range of exciting shopping and dining in all price ranges.

Adams Morgan Day is known for its live music, cultural, and dance performances, Kid's Fair and popular "Arts on Belmont." Varied international foods abound not only from vendors, but from Adams Morgan's sidewalk cafes and restaurants. Since 1978, the Adams Morgan Day Festival celebrates the synergy of diverse cultures.

Two signature stages, Florida and Columbia offer diverse live music groups. The Columbia Stage presents Familiar Faces, with 6 members of Chuck Brown's band, including his daughter, and Grammy nominated Maimouna 'Mumu Fresh' Youssef. Enjoy the DC indie music scene, and genres of classical, folk, bluegrass, funk, jazz, ragtime, and R&B with Cheick Hamala Diabate closing. Famed local, Jerry Phillips, returns as impresario of the Florida Stage and its Latin focus with spiritual rock, Brazilian, Steel Band - Caribbean, Samba jazz, and a 13 piece salsa band, Timba as close-out.

Arts on Belmont garners special attention for its original works in all media and opportunity to meet the artists. On shady residential Belmont, offerings fit all budgets. Savvy shoppers browse early through works in oil, watercolor, metal, textiles, clay, and wood.

New at the Dance Plaza, is the Min Hui Chinese Traditional Dancers which join acts such as Jinga Dance Fitness and Dance Institute of Washington, and the ever dynamic and popular Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers.

Kid's Fair offers Bungy Trampoline, Spider Climb, Buccaneer Pirate Ship, and Monkey Bounce. Family friendly healthy fun area includes relay races: egg/spoon, sack race, leap frog, and wheelbarrow, plus face painting in many themes, and organic yogurt from Stonyfield.

In addition to health and fitness vendors at the Health/ Fitness Pavilion, Chartered Health provides free wellness screenings, tests, and counseling. Unleash the inner child with United Social Sports adult fitness games, even play dodge ball for charity. Green Pavilion hosts sustainable energy, green products, and groups promoting reusable products, plus Car 2 Go; new car sharing with contests.

It's easy to Rediscover Adams Morgan as visitors stroll with vendors on one side and view the year-round indie businesses and shopping of Adams Morgan on the other.

Adams Morgan Main Street, an umbrella nonprofit, organizes the Festival and preserves Adams Morgan's eclectic, vibrant multicultural character and small businesses. For info, www.AdamsMorganDayFestivalDC.com
