Duane Baughman's BHUTTO Nominated for Emmy

Peabody Award Winning Film Recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for Outstanding News Coverage

NEW YORK, July 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Duane Baughman's feature length documentary, BHUTTO, which aired as part of PBS's Independent Lens series, has received the nomination for the 33rd Annual News & Documentary Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Continuing Coverage of a News Story - Long Form, announced Thursday by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). The News & Documentary Emmy Awards recognize defining work in journalism and excellence in television during the past calendar year.

"The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is delighted to honor the outstanding work being done by journalists and documentarians throughout the television industry," said NATAS Chairman Malachy Wienges. This year, Emmy Awards will be presented in 42 categories including Breaking News, Investigative Reporting, Outstanding Interview, and Best Documentary.

BHUTTO is among six broadcasts nominated for Outstanding Continuing Coverage of a News Story -- Long Form, which honors the best coverage of the background, analysis and developing events of a single news story, subject or theme.

"I'm humbled to be honored with this nomination," says Baughman, director and producer of the multi-award winning film. "Benazir Bhutto's legacy of barrier-breaking bravery is one that I am proud to have had the honor to share with the world. She led a life that was heroic and inspiring to young girls and boys, to grown men and women, to Muslims and Christians and people from every corner of the globe. I know Benazir is looking down and smiling."

Baughman, a national Democratic political consultant and the president and creative director of The Baughman Company, has played a pivotal role in groundbreaking victories for women leaders across America, including Hillary Clinton's 20 primary and caucus wins during her historic 2008 presidential bid. Baughman has been instrumental in helping current HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius become the first woman re-elected Governor of Kansas and Shirley Franklin, the first African American woman Mayor of Atlanta.

BHUTTO premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and was most recently a recipient of the prestigious 71st Annual Peabody Award for excellence in electronic media. The film has earned both the ABCNews VideoSource Award from The International Documentary Association and an EPIC Award for its promotion of women's rights and leadership by The White House Project.
