Spanish Broadcasting System Family Mourns Loss of Pedro Arroyo, Director of Programming of Z'93 in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, April 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Spanish Broadcasting System, (SBS) (NASDAQ: SBSA) announced with profound sadness the passing of Pedro Arroyo, the company's Director of Programming for its Z'93 Puerto Rico station. SBS' President and CEO Mr. Raul Alarcon joined the thousands of voices that have expressed their condolences on the death of one of its most valuable resources, Pedro Arroyo who died in Puerto Rico on Saturday April 14th, at the age of 60.
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Pedro, who was an integral part of the SBS family for more than 30 years and was instrumental in the formation of both of our stations in Puerto Rico," said Mr. Raul Alarcon President and CEO of SBS. "We offer our deepest sympathies to his wife, Ana, their children, and the rest of his family and all the people of Puerto Rico at this time of great loss. Pedro was a remarkable and kind individual who left an indelible mark on the company and on all of the people who had the privilege of working with and knowing him. He was a devoted husband and father, a strong and patient leader, a dedicated and talented professional and a deeply involved member of his community. He will be greatly missed both as a long time friend and colleague."
The unexpected death of Pedro Arroyo was in the afternoon of Saturday April 14th, 2012 at the residence of his sister where he inexplicably collapsed. By the time the emergency medical response personnel arrived to the scene, Mr. Arroyo was pronounced deceased. The caused of his death, which occurred around 6:30 pm, was due to respiratory arrest.
On the other hand, SBS Radio, Executive VP of Programming, Jesus Salas stated "SBS' family is deeply mourning this great lost. For us, for the listeners, and for the performers, Pedro Arroyo is a legend. His tenacity and vision made him a leader."
The Chief Revenue Officer of SBS Consolidated Operations and General Manager of MegaTV, Albert Rodriguez said "Pedro Arroyo is a name that has been synonymous with qualities like success, leadership and wisdom in radio throughout his storied career. He has mentored and taught many of us so much about the medium and had done so with a very genuine and humble touch. Pedro always uniquely distinguished himself in his approach to his craft. He will be missed, but I'm sure his spirit will live on in many of us."
Finally, the VP of SBS Puerto Rico, Edgardo Aubray, said that it will not be until Monday when we'll have a clearer picture of the contributions with respect to his passing, however it is anticipated that the desired wish of Pedro was that everything was handle with the strictest of privacy.
"Today we are spending time with the family, where we will discuss the numerous ideas proposed by artists, government officials and our stations for the services. Although it would ultimately depend on the wishes of Ana and the rest of the family, as well as Pedro's final wishes," stated Aubray.
