Dove Tree Apartments Addresses Inaccuracies Aired in KSAT-TV Segment

Dove Tree Apartments responds to the story appearing on KSAT-TV on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 entitled "Refugees Battling Bed Bugs at Apartment Complex" by Jessie Degollado and subsequent coverage by other media outlets.

SAN ANTONIO, April 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Since KSAT made no effort to inform Dove Tree management about the potential presence of health or safety issues at the community, to verify the accuracy of statements made regarding those issues or to provide Dove Tree the opportunity to respond or comment, we believe that the segment aired by the station contained material inaccuracies and incorrect conclusions about living conditions at Dove Tree. It is the intent of Dove Tree management to clarify the factual record and to alleviate any fears our residents have that may have resulted from the segment.

Dove Tree Apartments management was unaware of any issue portrayed in KSAT-TV's news coverage since no complaint or notification was made by any resident or advocate at any time prior to the story's airing. Dove Tree Community staff learned of the potential issue only after the station's broadcast of the segment.

Dove Tree would like to assure our residents and the rest of the San Antonio community that upon notification, community management took immediate steps to determine the presence, scope and solutions to the concerns described. A comprehensive, unit-by-unit assessment has been completed. Contrary to what has been broadcast, only a single unit was found to be affected by the issue reported. Exterminators have already completed treatment and will continue monitoring the property to ensure the issue remains resolved.

Dove Tree is, of course, disappointed that KSAT elected to broadcast this story without apparently having checked the facts and without having provided Dove Tree with the opportunity to respond to and correct the allegations.

Dove Tree will continue to work with Catholic Charities and Family Services to ensure the wellbeing of all residents. This includes precautionary endeavors - such as educating community residents about prevention and detection - currently in development. Dove Tree urges those families requiring additional assistance or information regarding the ongoing maintenance of their homes to notify community staff as quickly as possible.
