GAINESVILLE, Fla., Feb. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Filmmaking and the environment converge at the 3rd annual Cinema Verde Environmental Film & Arts Festival in Gainesville next week, Friday February 24th - Friday, March 2nd. The event, presented by GoGreenNation.org, features 25 environmental films, an Eco Fair, Eco Artwalk and "Vintage Verde," a fashion show featuring recycled couture.
"We're thrilled to be entering into our 3rd annual," said Trish Riley, Founding Director of Cinema Verde. "We're moving into an era that's requiring more environmental conservation and sustainability than ever, and what better way to get the message across than presenting environmental causes in artful and entertaining ways?"
Cinema Verde is an opportunity for the community to learn more about sustainable solutions, how their decisions impact the environment and what each can do to make a difference. Film from all over the world will be shown with many directors on hand to facilitate discussions after screenings.
One of this year's featured films, Confessions of an Eco-Terrorist, directed by Peter Jay Brown (Entertainment Tonight, Real People, Whale Wars), will highlight the "Celebrate Nature" Eco Fair on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. The film is an action-packed 30-year odyssey of the notorious Sea Shepherd Conservation Society led by Captain Paul Watson. Brown and his associate, Lon Haber (Entourage, Bruno), will be on hand.
Several other filmmakers will also be in attendance including local artist and director of Sirena Rediviva, Margaret Ross Tolbert; Adams Wood, On Coal River; Christine Heinrichs, author of How to Raise Poultry and featured in Mad City Chickens; and Matt Briggs, Deep Green.
Cinema Verde will be held at Villa East, 301 N. Main Street in Gainesville. Celebrations Catering, hosting Cinema Verde, will offer an extensive menu of food and beverages so patrons can enjoy dinner and a movie throughout the festival.
"We had over 3,000 guests last year and we hope to see an even larger audience this year," Riley said. "Cinema Verde is a wonderful chance for us to showcase the beautiful nature that is so important to those of us who've chosen to live in this unique region of Florida. And there's no better time of year to invite visitors from the chilly north to come to sunny Florida and celebrate our natural heritage with us."
