Son of Mel Torme, Radio and TV Host, to Perform Father's Beloved Jazz Standards in "Torme Sings Torme"

TAYLOR, Mich., Jan.19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Just in time for Valentine's Day, Steve March Torme - noted jazz/pop singer and son of legendary jazz crooner, Mel Torme, will perform his father's favorite standards in "Torme Sings Torme," at the Wayne County Community College District's Heinz C. Prechter Educational and Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11th. He will be accompanied by his jazz trio. The performance is sponsored by WCCCD's University Center.

"Steve Torme's performances have such a warmth, with arrangements that are fun, engaging and sure to spark a memory or two," said Dr. Curtis L. Ivery, Chancellor. "We're delighted that he'll be on our stage Feb. 11 to help our audience create wonderful new Valentine's Day memories."

Steve March Torme is the oldest son of the famous jazz performer, Mel Torme, and has been a composer and performer since his first composition was sung by Desi Arnaz, Jr. on an episode of the Here's Lucy television show. Reaching prominence in the early 1980s, Torme has continued to record for a variety of independent labels, including award-winning releases of Torme Sings Torme and Inside/Out. Torme actively tours, performing with his jazz trio, big bands and symphony orchestras.

The Heinz C. Prechter Educational and Performing Arts Center is located on WCCCD's Downriver Campus at 21000 Northline Road in Taylor, Michigan. Tickets are $35.00 and available by calling 734-347-3200.
