San Francisco Ocean Film Festival Casts Out a Call for Entries: 9th Annual Festival to be Held March 8-11, 2012
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- North America's premier cinemaquatic© event, the San Francisco Ocean Film Festival, is casting out a call for entries to its ninth annual festival, March 8-11, 2012. Presented by Aquarium of the Bay, The Bay Institute and NOAA's National Marine Sanctuaries, the Festival is fittingly held at the edge of San Francisco Bay, at the Aquarium's newly acquired Bay Theater.
"With San Francisco Bay as our backdrop, it's only fitting that the San Francisco Ocean Film Festival serve as the premier film festival of its kind for learning more about the world's ocean, marine life, and environmental concerns, through the lens of accomplished independent filmmakers from around the world," said Festival Director Ana Blanco.
Widely regarded as the largest and most diverse festival of its kind, the San Francisco Ocean Film Festival features documentaries, animations, narratives and other traditional and experimental genre on topics including surfing, sharks, sailing, the environment, marine wildlife, island culture and more.
"The mission of the Bay Theater is to provide a voice for San Francisco Bay. Our partnership with the San Francisco Ocean Film Festival greatly helps us amplify this voice, to a wide range of bay and ocean lovers," said John Frawley, President and CEO of The Bay Institute and Aquarium of the Bay. Aquarium of the Bay entered into a three year lease for the 270-seat theater, through a contribution from the Toll Bridge Program Oversight Committee.
The four-day festival will feature more than 50 films from an international array of filmmakers. In addition to the thousands who will attend film programs, the festival leads an extensive free education program that reaches nearly 1,000 students. More than just films on screen, the festival is organized as a series of programs that feature riveting films and in-depth discussions with filmmakers and content experts, creating a unique public forum on the environmental, social and cultural importance of the world's marine resources.
The San Francisco Ocean Film Festival is accepting films through December 15, 2011. Seeking timeless films that educate, entertain or inspire, the festival accepts films from any genre - documentary, narrative, short, or animation - of any length.
