Wizards and Witches Will Fly Into Chestnut Hill for Harry Potter Weekend

Three-day neighborhood festival celebrates the popular children's books and will feature the 2nd Annual Philadelphia Brotherly Love Cup Quidditch Tournament

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --Chestnut Hill College and the Chestnut Hill Business Association are partnering for the Chestnut Hill Harry Potter Weekend/Philadelphia Brotherly Love Cup Quidditch Tournament taking place October 14, 15 and 16. The three-day festival, which celebrates the spirit of the popular children's books and movie series, kicks off on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Top of the Hill Fountain Plaza with a welcoming ceremony that features a parade of Quidditch teams from all over the region, as well as the ceremonial release of Hedwig the Owl by Hogwarts Headmaster, Dumbledore.

On Saturday, the 2nd Annual Philadelphia Brotherly Love Cup Quidditch Tournament will take place from noon to 6 p.m. at the Chestnut Hill College soccer field. Free and open to the public, the tournament includes 12 college and community-Quidditch teams from the Philadelphia area, including: Vassar, Penn State, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Maryland, SUNY Genesco, Lafayette College, Stony Brook University. The best three teams will compete for the Brotherly Love Cup in the final bracket of the tournament.

Throughout the weekend, Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill will feature a wide range of Potter-themed activities and events, including: Quidditch 101, coached by Chestnut Hill College Quidditch players; live-action programs featuring Hedwig the Owl; a live Wizards Chess Match, with local high school students performing as the chess pieces; plenty of Weazley Wizards games for the kids; a scavenger hunt; a Harry Potter costume parade and much more. Local businesses are offering a range of shopping and dining special features as well. A complete schedule of all weekend activities is attached, and is also available online.
