KEXP to Broadcast Live from Reykjavik's Iceland Airwaves Festival with Gus Gus, Johann Johannsson and More

SEATTLE, Oct. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- New music champion KEXP will broadcast more than a dozen sets from the Iceland Airwaves festival, live from Reykjavik, Oct. 12-14. KEXP DJs John Richards, Cheryl Waters and Kevin Cole will be on hand at the KEX Hostel to host the performances, to be heard on 90.3 FM in Seattle and at KEXP.org around the world.

"We love to bring our listeners new and engaging music experiences--whether they're from across the street or across the planet," said Cole, senior director of programing and host of the Afternoon Show. "The broadcasts from Iceland Airwaves will be a thrill for music fans and for John, Cheryl and me, as well."

The festival will air between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day Pacific Time (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern) and will feature sets from artists including Gus Gus, Johann Johannsson, Of Monsters and Men, Mugison and 11 others.

The Iceland Airwaves broadcasts are the latest in a series of collaborations between KEXP and Iceland Naturally. KEXP also co-produces the Sister City Showcase: Reykjavik Calling, which pairs Seattle and Icelandic musicians. This year's showcase will feature collaborations from Sean Nelson, Kyle O'Quin, David Bazan and Tomo Nakayama with musicians from Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, including Olof Arnalds, Snorri Helgason, Gudrid Hansdottir and Nive Nielsen. The 21+ show is Friday, Oct. 28 at 8:00 p.m. and is free. It's presented by KEXP in partnership with the City of Reykjavik, Icelandair and Iceland Naturally.

Based in Seattle, KEXP is one of the most influential listener-supported music radio stations in the country. More than 180,000 listeners from around the world tune in to the station each week over the air and online, and it produces 500 in-studio performances each year.
