EPA Whistleblower Hugh Kaufman Joins BIG FIX Press Event in New Orleans

Hugh B. Kaufmanis a senior policy analyst at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response, and is a leading critic of the U.S. federal government's decision to use the dispersant Corexit on oil that gushed into the Gulf of Mexico after BP's Deepwater Horizon accident on April 20, 2010. Kaufman has been with EPA since it was founded in 1971.

BACKGROUND: THE BIG FIX makes its North American premiere on Oct. 14 at the New Orleans Film Festival. It explores the complicit behavior of the US government in the long-term use of the chemical dispersant, Corexit 9527, a known hemolitic (blood thinner). In an unexpected twist of fate, Co-Director/Producer Rebecca Harrell Tickell became severely ill after being exposed to the oil and Corexit mixture while filming. Her health struggle is cataloged in the film. THE BIG FIX gives a prophetic message about how the BP Oil Catastrophe continues, despite government and oil company claims to the contrary. This is the UNCOVER-UP film, according to Stuart Smith, the reality instead of the BP PR machine.
