Forristall Luke of AEM on Focus Washington: Bipartisan Compromise is Key to Economic Recovery

"Infrastructure investment equals job creation."

WASHINGTON, Oct. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In an interview with Chuck Conconi on Focus Washington, Anne Forristall Luke, vice president of government affairs for the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), reflected on the obstacles facing the American Jobs Act and reinforced the importance of infrastructure investment to American prosperity.

With AEM, a trade association of more than 850 member companies aimed at providing innovative business development resources to advance the off-road equipment manufacturing industry in the global marketplace, Forristall Luke has been advocating for infrastructure investment for years. She was integral in forming I Make America, AEM's grassroots campaign for U.S. manufacturing jobs.

"What is underappreciated in this country is how important infrastructure investment is to economic growth ... and the revitalization of manufacturing in this country," said Forristall Luke.

While Forristall Luke is hopeful that the jobs bill will create a large number of jobs, she notes that the key to passing the bill is for both parties to work together to reach a compromise. She added that the chances of that happening before the 2012 elections are slim to none.

"I think there's no chance the President's jobs bill, as it's currently drafted, is going to pass," Forristall Luke said. "Parts of it might pass and that's going to depend on a political conclusion between Democrats and Republicans, between the House and the Senate, that it is in all of their political benefit to make something happen, and until they come to that conclusion nothing is going to happen."

She continued, "Infrastructure investment equals job creation, equals economic growth, and will help us get out of the debt and the deficit situation currently plaguing America."
