The Network will Premiere a Moving Documentary "Tengo Cancer" and a Series of PSAs to increase awareness and Provide Hispanic Women with the Necessary Information for Prevention
MIAMI, Oct. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --During this year's October Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Discovery Familia will join in the fight against breast cancer with an on air campaign that includes special programming and a series of PSAs specifically created to call on Hispanic women to become informed and take preventative measures.
As part of this initiative, Discovery Familia will premiere Tengo cancer,an autobiographical documentary, on Saturday, October 29th at9 PME/P during its "Sabados Medicos" programming block. This coproduction, between Discovery Familia and Imagina U.S., follows the real life story of Patricia San Pedro, a successful executive with a thriving career whose life was turned upside down after being diagnosed with breast cancer, a fate her mother suffered 20 years prior. Even so, San Pedro opted for looking at her situation as an opportunity to learn. She accentuated and focused on the positive, maximizing the new opportunities and ideas that resulted from her struggle.
During this special month, the network is also collaborating with "Latinas Contra Cancer", a nonprofit organization that provides information and support to women in the Hispanic community. Starting on October 15th, Discovery Familia will air a series of PSAs featuring Hispanic women's moving testimonials about their experiences with breast cancer. These survivors share their stories with the viewers in a very personal way. The ultimate objective is to highlight the importance of prevention, early detection and family support, as well as to deliver a message of hope.
In addition, the network will also provide useful online information for Hispanic women at www.discoveryfamilia.com on prevention, diagnostics and treatment, as well as links to important resources including "Latinas Contra Cancer" www.latinascontracancer.org and Patricia San Pedro's motivational web site www.positivelypat.com.
The "Sabados Medicos" programming block, which features Tengo cancer and airs every Saturday at 9 PM E/P, also offers a variety of shows and series on medicine and wellbeing including: Enigmas medicos, Dame un remedio, Cirugia plastica y Secretos de mi cuerpo.
