Door-to-door Salesman Seeks to Document the Perfect First Date in Reality-Based Movie: 'Car Date'

Door-to-door Salesman Seeks to Document the Perfect First Date in Reality-Based Movie: 'Car Date'

Porn stars Victoria White and Charlie Laine join filmmaker Lacy Burke on a captivating, unforgettable quest to get lucky

LOS ANGELES, July 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- One day, Lacy Burke decided to make a movie. A door-to-door salesman, Burke had no filmmaking experience but wanted to see if he could do it, and do it on a budget. And Burke also wanted to "get lucky," he says, so he set out to make a movie about going on a date. Today, that film is "Car Date," which has already scored a spot at the Las Vegas Film Festival and has been gaining fans since its iTunes debut in early July 2011.

"I won't know for a couple of months just how many people are downloading it, but I'm definitely getting hits on the YouTube trailer, which is directing people to the website for the downloads," Burke says. "There's nothing like this movie - it's pure reality and about something most everyone can relate to, which is going on a date and, in my case, with the hope of getting lucky. What people are telling me is that once they start watching it, they can't turn it off."

Whether people are curious about the subject, sympathetic to the somewhat mysterious Burke (only audibly present in the film), captivated by the cause, intrigued by watching the hot girls who star in the movie, or just want to see whether Burke actually gets lucky, people tell Burke the film is captivating. This feedback has been pretty exciting, considering he had no idea how people would react, he says.

Once Burke decided to make the 45-minute movie, he went on Craigslist to find all his talent. With a start-up budget of $2,000, he managed to hire everyone who helped make it possible through Craigslist, with the exception of his leading ladies, Charlie Laine and Victoria White, who were contracted through the "adult talent" agency ATMLA.

"I didn't set out to hire porn stars for the film, but I wasn't able to get regular girls to open up in front of the camera," Burke says. "Modeling agencies laughed at my requests and hung up on me. So when ATMLA's Shy Love offered to contract out Charlie and Victoria for 'Car Date,' it was awesome, and they were perfect for the job."

The entire film is shot on a Panasonic HVX 200 and in a mini-van. It took 2 months to create and ultimately cost Burke $6,000, which he hopes will pay off in iTunes downloads. But money aside, Burke found the movie-making experience and the reality-show genre fascinating. There's no "acting," so it's raw, unadulterated, highly personal and utterly possible from the standpoint of an "average Joe" jumping into movie-making.

As he says, "It just goes to show that anyone who wants to make a movie can make a movie. You just gotta do it."
